THE FUTURE OF PLANT PROTEIN

A BETTER FOOD SYSTEM

By 2050, the global population will hit 10 billion. How will we feed the world in the century ahead?

The way we grow food today degrades water and land, and is too resource-intensive to be sustained long-term.

A new generation of plant-based foods will be pivotal to building a food system that protects biodiversity, improves food security, and builds climate resilience.

DryGro uses cutting-edge plant science to produce Water Lentils. This tiny, fast-growing plant is one of the most efficient sources of protein on the planet, and will lead the way to a more sustainable global diet in the 21st century.

Founded at Oxford in 2015, DryGro works at the forefront of plant science and production system design to create scalable, robust growing systems.

DryGro works with a world-class team of scientists, engineers, partners and advisors.

We have R&D partnerships with four universities, and have received support from the European Space Agency, Innovate UK, EIT Climate-KIC and EIT Food.

Since January 2021, we have been successfully growing Water Lentils in our second generation facility in Kenya.

WATER LENTILS

What are Water Lentils? Quite simply, the most promising

plant protein in the world, with huge untapped potential.

Lemna2_edited_edited_edited_edited.png

A fast-growing, freshwater aquatic crop, Water Lentils are a nutritious, neutral-tasting, and versatile source of protein.

Water lentils have countless potential applications, including egg white replacement, plant-based meat protein ingredient, and many others.

Incredibly high in Vitamin B12, and highly digestible with a low allergen risk, they are beneficial for human and animal consumption while being much less resource-intensive than meat or soy.

Water Lentils can be grown all year round in a range of climates, without arable land, pesticides or herbicides. They’re grown and processed on a very short supply chain with little impact on biodiversity, zero deforestation, and without the use of GMOs.

DRYGRO RESEARCH

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We aim to radically change protein markets in the years and decades ahead. We know that to make a positive, lasting impact on the global food system, we need to operate at an industrial scale.

To achieve this, we combine expertise in plant science, engineering, and digital technology. To manage the complex knowledge required to succeed at scale, we partner with academic and industry experts across plant science, protein processing, and market strategy. We  work with four different academic institutions, and have also been supported by Rothamstad (the UK’s largest agriculture research institute), Innovate UK, EIT Climate-KIC, the European Space Agency, and others.
